Job Description:
SerImmune, an early-stage venture-backed start-up with a uniquely differentiated immune information technology platform to map adaptive immune responses, is seeking a VP Bioinformatics and Data Science. This individual will be responsible for providing strategic and visionary technical leadership in bioinformatics and data analysis, and software development activities supporting the technology pipeline and partnerships. The VP Bioinformatics will be expected to promote a culture of creativity and innovation, scientific rigor and collaboration. Tasks and Responsibilities: -Leads the design, development, and application of computational methods, software development, data science and statistics to analyze diverse “big data” sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for partnered and internal programs. -Manages collaborations and interactions between with product and partnered teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments. -Develops and codes software programs, algorithms and automated processes to integrate and evaluate large datasets. -Interprets and communicates insights and findings from analysis and experiments to company’s staff and the Board of Directors. -Participates in the design of the processes and the implementation of data analysis improvements to establish best-in-practice operations. -Recruits, develops and retains top talent capable of developing and delivering sophisticated technical products, concepts, and strategies. -Works with senior management to attract strategic partners and investors. Minimum Qualifications (Must have): -PhD or MS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, genomics or related scientific field or equivalent. -Minimum 10 years’ experience in technology and life science environments, with >5 years providing team and or organizational leadership. -Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, solid knowledge of languages such as Java, C++, GO, Python and high programming proficiency in a Unix/Linux environment. -Familiarity in applying biostatistical approaches to NGS / proteome / genome data interpretation. -Ability to understand subtleties of different methods and impacts of data generation and QC. -Experience in high performance computing, and cloud computing. -Exceptional written and presentation skills. -Ability to ground decisions in business strategy and back them up with data, and an understanding of how to collaborate with the product teams and thrive in a startup environment. Preferred Qualifications: -Experience or familiarity with deep learning and/or database mining approaches -Self-Starter Working Conditions: -Office and laboratory environment, and telecommuting -Prolonged periods of sitting, standing -Must be able to lift and transport at least 25 pounds -Ability to travel
