Join an energetic Public Affairs Team eager to bring digital products about biology to non-scientific audiences. Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory seeks a Web Designer to support our web team with the ongoing design and maintenance of dynamic web applications and our new responsive web design. Successful candidates must be enthusiastic about adapting new web technologies and practices and must be able to hand-code HTML and CSS. The ability to effectively interact with back-end web programmers and system administrators is critical, as is proficiency in a variety of programs including Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro. Musts have experience in: front-end web design and development technologies; content management systems; and Adobe Creative Suite. Demonstrated creative design strengths and portfolio of projects produced are required. Position Requirements: EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, New Media, Web Design, background in graphic design is a plus. EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of professional experience in designing and maintaining public-facing websites. SKILLS: Ability to hand-code HTML and CSS. Proficiency in a variety of programs including Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro. Experience with front-end web design and development technologies; content management systems; and Adobe C reative Suite. Demonstrated creative design strengths and portfolio of projects produced. Proficiency in a variety of relevant programs such as, Adobe Creative suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) and Mac OS. Strong conceptual skills, a meticulous eye for detail, and the ability to take a project from inception to completion, UI/UX design skills. Strong sense of design, great communication and interpersonal skills and be very organized works well in a team environment. Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and detail/deadline orientation. OTHER: Strong knowledge of front-end web design, development and underlying technologies including JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap Framework. Experience with eCommerce sites and SSL is desirable. Experience with content management systems (CMS), WordPress preferable, although other CMS experience is valuable. Some back-end development experience is desirable. Experience with audio and video capturing, editing and production techniques for the web, for the creation of podcasts is desirable.
