The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy). We are looking for a Research Technician specialized in developing and optimizing next generation sequencing technologies to join the ‘Systems Genetics and Precision Health’ group led by Dr Lars Steinmetz. The group develops and applies genome-wide technologies to elucidate the genetic basis of complex phenotypes, the functions and mechanisms of transcription and the genetic and molecular systems underlying diseases. The group works in an interdisciplinary manner across divers projects, integrating wet-lab and computational biology. The Research Technician´s responsibilities will include: Testing, developing and evaluating new tools, reagents and experimental protocols, in particular in the field of next generation sequencing and other high-throughput technologies; Working in close collaboration with the EMBL Genomics Core Facility to optimize the aforementioned protocols; Supporting members of the laboratory throughout their scientific projects; Training new group members and visitors in technologies and protocols used in the laboratory. The Research Technician is expected to contribute to scientific projects at all stages, ranging from experimental design to manuscript preparation.
