Application DeveloperVanderbilt University School of MedicineBiomedical InformaticsUnited States-Tennessee-Nashville The Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is looking to fill an Application Developer position. The successful candidate will join a highly motivated and multidisciplinary team to develop and deploy web applications for bioinformatics. The team has developed a number of innovative and powerful bioinformatics web applications with a large existing user base. Primary job responsibilities include creating, improving, testing, maintaining, and documenting source code that makes up the web applications. 
Education:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, bioinformatics, or a related field.

Required skills and/or experience:
1. Strong programming skills in C/C++.
2. Proven experience in back-end development with PHP and Python.
3. Proficiency in HTML/CSS and JavaScript/jQuery
4. Experience with relational database (MySQL, SQLite).
5. Demonstrated web application development experience in Unix/Linux environment
6. Experience with version control systems, preferably Git
7. Good communication skills

Preferred skills and/or experience:
1. Statistics training with programming skills in R
2. Experience with parallel computing
3. Experience with cloud deployment (e.g. Amazon AWS)

Other qualifications:
1. Intellectually curious with innovative and creative problem-solving skills
2. Motivated, self-starting, detailed-oriented, organized
3. Ability to learn new technologies at a fast pace
4. Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
