Job Description:
The candidate is expected to lead bioinformatic comparative genome analyses of robust sequence data from multidrug-resistant organisms generated at CARMG and actively participate in ongoing research projects within the center. Additionally, the selected candidate will be expected to develop independent research lines with emphasis on the application of next generation sequencing technologies, bioinformatics and comparative genomics to advance the understanding and characterization of the mechanisms of bacterial resistance, transmission dynamics of multidrug-resistant organisms, forecasting of resistance and drug discovery, among others. The ideal candidate is expected to actively interact with multidisciplinary research teams in the US and abroad, particularly with established team of microbiologists and bioinformatics experts in Latin America.

Departmental Requirements/Preferences:

Qualifications include:

i) an earned doctoral degree in bioinformatics, molecular genetics, molecular epidemiology, biological sciences, or related fields.

ii) publications in the field of bioinformatics, microbial genomics, next generation sequencing applications, microbial phylogenetics or metagenomics.

iii) a track record and/or strong potential in obtaining peer-reviewed external funding.

iv) commitment to excellence in teaching; v) excellent written and oral communication skills to strengthen the interactions with research centers in Latin America and in the US.

vi) a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for collaborative science.
