Job Description:
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) - School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) is actively seeking a Research Assistant Professor in its Center for Computational Biomedicine (CCB) to work with faculty/staff in the area of clinical data mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP).

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to carry out their research projects largely independently and generate research of significant impact. The candidate will also be expected to assist in: 1) the design of NLP programs and search engines from requirements, 2) design and optimize applications’ workflow and pipelines, 3) parallelize and optimize applications through different programming models and languages, 4) participate in the development of funding proposals, publications and reports. Opportunities to contribute to graduate education are available.

APPOINTMENTS/BENEFITS: This position is a full time, 12-month appointment on the non-tenure track, renewable on a yearly basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: The individual should possess a doctoral degree in one of the following areas: bioinformatics, genomics, genetics, computational biology, biomedical informatics, computer science, medicine, biostatistics, or related disciplines. A record of verifiable and published research in bioinformatics and genomics and potential for obtaining extramural funding are preferred. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required.
