Job Description:
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Scientist. This position contributes to basic and applied research activities and may play a lead role, including authorship of scientific publications, technical and agency reports, or patent preparation. The Assistant Scientist will be responsible for the integration, modeling, analysis, and visualization of diverse heterogeneous datasets, and will be involved in the development of computational models and hypothesis of drug mechanisms of action. The Assistant Scientist will develop novel computational methodologies and will develop and implement data standards, and will also be responsible for knowledge modeling/ontology engineering in the areas of biology and chemistry and develop key features, UI elements, documentation, testing, and application of novel software tools. The Assistant Scientist will regularly interact with other CCS personnel as well as other University of Miami faculty and research staff.

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D., M.D., or other doctoral level degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, or a closely related field of study. One year of relevant postdoctoral experience with hands-on experience with a variety of bioinformatics and cheminformatics resources and tools. This can include PubChem, other chemical biology databases such as ChEMBL, PDSP, Binding DB; pathway databases such as KEGG, PID, GEO, TCGA, ENCODE, CMap, etc.; and molecular dynamics, docking, pharmacophore, QSAR, chemical fingerprints, statistical data analysis, gene set enrichment analysis, network modeling, etc. methodologies and software packages. Knowledge of biomedical ontologies and experience in knowledge modeling, description logic, and general ontology engineering principles, Protege software, and ontology languages is preferred. Possess strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability and desire to work in a multidisciplinary team in close collaboration with others.
