Job Description:
The University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Immunology at the School of Medicine is seeking a Computational Biologist/Bioinformatics Research Scientist in the Vignali Lab (Vignali-lab.com).

The Research Scientist will work as a computational biologist/bioinformatics who will focus on analyses and management of multi-omics datasets (with emphasis on single cell and bulk RNAseq, ATACseq and ChIPseq data) relevant to the study of immune cells in mouse and human cancer and autoimmune microenvironments. This position will incorporate a wide range of skills and activities.

This individual will work in close collaboration with experimental scientists to assist their high throughput NGS project design, data analysis, and data presentation. This individual will also be expected to train lab members in basic computational biology/bioinformatics data analysis, including the use of programs in R and C++. They may also carry out independent computation research projects involving methods development, novel algorithm development and/or high-level data analysis of lab-generated and publically available datasets.

Education Required: PhD or ScD

Minimum Related Experience Level Required: 3-5 years experience

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position :

Ph.D. required. Preferred field of study for Ph.D. is computational biology; other field acceptable if equivalent expert knowledge can be demonstrated. At least three years of post-graduate research experience in computational biology or equivalent field is required. Ability to apply and be proficient in R, C++, Perl/Python and shell scripting in Linux environment is also required. The incumbent will be expected to follow best coding practices: issue tracking, source code control, unit testing, and documentation management. Expertise in biostatistics, image analysis, machine learning, and/or database management are desirable assets. Experience in analyzing single cell and bulk RNAseq, ATACseq, and/or ChIPseq data (and other NGS datasets) is also required. Experience in clustering, differential gene expression, gene set enrichment analysis, and/or TCR / BCR sequencing analysis would also be highly desirable. Experience in the cancer immunology or basic immunology field is highly desirable.
