Job Description:
UNI seeks applicants for an Assistant Research Scientist. This position will be appointed for a one-year term with the possibility of renewal based on exemplary performance and anticipated continued funding. Qualified candidates will have completed a PhD in systems or computational biology, bioinformatics, network science, complex systems, or a related discipline with a focus on biological systems.

The primary role of this position is to collaboratively conduct research and technical activities in systems biology bridging network science approaches and human health. Special opportunities and data sets are available in the application to brain structure, connectivity and function as applied to aging and cognition including Alzheimer’s disease. Related opportunities include access to “multiple–omics” data sets including next generation sequencing, transcriptome, proteomic, metabolomic and other data sets in relation to electronic medical records, brain imaging and social network phenotypes. However the expertise and methodological skills we seek are broadly applicable to many problem areas in computational biology and bioinformatics, data science, machine learning, knowledge engineering, data science, computational social science and social network analysis that involve biological systems, carried out as part of the Institute’s research mission. These activities focus particularly on the research hubs called Health and/or Health Care, which focus on how network connections from genes to individual brains to global culture influence health, illness/disease, and biological systems from individuals to population outcomes. This research core will involve both targeted data sets and large-scale networks. Core activities will involve data analysis and modeling using available network tools, as well as the design of new methodologies and data processing routines. A key function of the position is to effectively interface research efforts at the Institute with those going on in other IU schools and campuses especially the IU School of Medicine (IUSM) and to promote the overall goals of IUNI. This position will be housed in Indianapolis at the IU School of Medicine.

Basic Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have completed a PhD in systems or computational biology, bioinformatics, network science, complex systems, or a related discipline with a focus on biological systems.
