Job Description:
The Nephrological Research Laboratory of the Dept. 2 for Internal Medicine at the University Hospital Cologne (Prof. Bernhard Schermer/Prof. Thomas Benzing) is in collaboration with the "Cellular Networks and Systems Biology" group (Prof. Andreas Beyer) seeking applications for a full-time Bioinformatician (f/m) to be employed under a limited-time contract (3 years; third-party funding; follow-up funding and extension planned) starting in November 2017.

We offer a position in a state-of-the art research laboratory, focusing on the basic understanding of the kidney and kidney diseases. We employ latest methods in molecular and cellular biology such as RNA-seq, ncRNA-seq, CLIP, ChIP-seq, and proteomics using a number of different model organisms and patient samples. Our young and motivated team is now looking for bioinformatics support regarding our systems biology projects. The close collaboration between the Nephrolab and the group of Prof. Beyer guarantees an excellent interaction and mentoring between biomedical research and systems biology/bioinformatics.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Bioinformatics support of the basic science projects at the nephrological research laboratory

• Analysis of RNAseq/CLIP/ChIPseq/Proteomics data

• Generation of figures/illustration of data

• Modelling of complex networks/interactions/phenotype-expression correlation

• Experimental design

• Active participation in scientific discussions

Minimum qualifications:

• PhD degree with a focus on bioinformatics or biostatistics

• Experience in the analysis of RNA-seq data

• Experience with the analysis of ncRNA and CLIP as well as proteomics data would be helpful but are not required

• General interest in a longer term employment
