Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory (WMRGL) in Birmingham, to join our dynamic team of scientists. The post is for an HCPC registered clinical scientist specialising in bioinformatics to assist our diverse team of clinical scientists. Applications are invited for skilled and motivated Bioinformaticians with an interest in human genetics. Over the last 4 years WMRGL has significantly expanded its research portfolio, securing over £4 million of R&D funding for projects covering a diverse spectrum of genetic disorders including cancer, developmental delay, and prenatal testing for genetic abnormalities. The laboratory was selected as one of three Technology Hubs for the Cancer Research UK Stratified Medicine Programme. WMRGL also hosts the Central England Haemato-oncology Research Biobank (CEHRB). We are committed to training and developing our staff at all levels and have active seminar and research programmes supporting Continuing Professional Development. The successful candidate will have a degree in Computer Science or a Health Informatics discipline and be a clinical bioinformatician who is HCPC registered, or awaiting registration. Experience in next generation sequencing, quality management, web development and database management is essential. You will provide bioinformatics support to scientists engaged in the provision of genetic services as well as in research projects, working closely with staff across the department and at the University of Birmingham. You will be responsible for the testing, validation and implementation of analytical pipelines required to analyse genomic data (including next generation sequencing, microarray, and other emerging technologies) for a broad range of clinical diagnostic and research applications, including whole exome and whole genome analysis.
