Job Description:
The Macosko Lab, part of the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute, is looking for a Bioinformatician to assist in the analysis and software development of single-cell gene expression data. We have recently built a new technology, Drop-seq, which enabled us to acquire hundreds of thousands of expression profiles from individual mammalian brain cells. We plan to use these profiles to explore cellular diversity in the brain, and understand how cell types change in response to environmental and genetic perturbations relevant to neuropsychiatric disease.

This person will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary team to develop new computational methods and apply existing ones, and assist in biologically interpreting these analyses. The candidate will also need to produce methods and software that are usable and accessible to those with a range of computational backgrounds.

The Stanley Center and the Broad Institute provide a vibrant research environment with close links to MIT, Harvard and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals across Boston. Being a member of our team will provide the opportunity for your contributions to be utilized and recognized across the vast global network of researchers in the fields of genomics and psychiatric disease research.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Familiarity with next-generation sequence data analysis tools
  • Demonstrated experience designing computational methods and tools, including prior experience with algorithms relevant to computational biology, and skill and experience with statistical analysis is strongly preferred
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency with R - familiarity with Python, Java, C, and Unix are helpful
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while making the necessary connections with experts in various computational analysis groups
