Job Description:
Under direction, the Bioinformatics Analyst will perform statistical and integrative data analysis for genomics and clinical data in the context for the Institute for Precision Medicine (IPM). This includes 1) development, testing and documentation of clinical genomics analysis workflows employing a combination of commercial, open-source and custom tools 2) analysis of data generated by genomic testing to support New York State applications for new tests. You should be passionate about analyzing large genomic datasets, enjoy summarizing complex datasets using user-friendly graphical representations, enjoy finding inefficiencies in how we operate, and enjoy brainstorming and building workflow solutions. You love number crunching, analysis, insights and organizational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development of software tools and build new pipelines or consolidate existing ones for bioinformatics analyses in the clinical setting
  • Maintain, test and update pipeline using a strict change control system and testing/validation processes
  • Conduct and maintain systematic documentation of software pipelines for compliance using change control systems
  • Assist in development and maintenance of genomic and clinical databases
  • As needed create web user interfaces for to explore large data stores, combining genomic and clinical data and statistical analyses to help other team members understand insights form theses data stores
  • Perform statistical and integrative data analysis on genomics and clinical data, summarize complex datasets
Education: Bachelor’s of Science Degree in related field

Experience: Minimum 2 years experience working with next generation sequencing data and relevant tools (GATK, samtools, BWA,TopHat, STAR,etc.).

Previous experience in designing and building bioinformatics workflows.

Previous experience analyzing and summarizing genomic datasets

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with genomics and bioinformatics in a clinical laboratory including setting up, testing and maintaining bioinformatics workflows
  • Technical experience with a wide variety of PC, Macintosh, UNIX hardware and software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Unix.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of web applications.
