Help develop, test and maintain in-house software for high-throughput computation for data processing, alignment, and assembly using various types of sequence data. Works with other pipeline developers and systems administrators to optimize hardware and configuration for maximal pipeline performance and stability. Troubleshoot diverse systems and data problems. Participate in code design and review. Under the direction of senior manager, formulates and defines project scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems handling genome sequence related data.

- Prepares detailed specifications and algorithms for genome sequence analysis from which programs will be written.
- Applies existing custom bioinformatics software to both well-defined and moderately complex genome analysis problems.
- Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and maintains programs and research software for genome sequence analysis applications.
- Researches, assesses, imports, configures, and customizes third-party bioinformatics software.
