The ATCC Center for Translational Microbiology (ATCC-CTM) is a newly formed center of excellence in microbiology established by The American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) and the Institute for Life Science Entrepreneurship (ILSE), located on the Kean University campus in Union, NJ. Its mission is to advance innovative approaches, new technologies and scientific discoveries in microbiology to fuel basic scientific insights in the field, as well as directly and indirectly generate commercially useful products, tools and services. The Center is uniquely structured to bring together basic researchers from academia with applied scientists from industry, entrepreneurs and business concerns, in an environment that facilitates the translation of early innovation in microbiology into successful outcomes.
Position Title: Bioinformatics Scientist
Location: ILSE BioCenter, in Union, New Jersey.
Overall Function: Working together with ILSE/CTM/ATCC scientists, this bioinformatics scientist will develop and maintain a high-throughput microbial genomics information analysis pipeline based on NGS data, and analyze and interpret genomics data to further product development and scientific discovery.
Major Responsibilities:
Develop a high-throughout information analysis pipeline for microbial genomics based on NGS data.Maintain and upgrade the analysis pipeline based on the latest technology and scientific breakthrough and trends.Analyze microbial genomics data to further product development and scientific discovery.Draft internal scientific report and peer-reviewed publications.Experience & Educational Requirements:
PhD in bioinformatics, genomics, computer science, or a related fieldPast experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysisProficient with major NGS, genomics, and bioinformatics tools and resourcesScientific research experience in genomics and bioinformatics fieldData analysis pipeline development experienceStrong programming skills in Java, C/C++, or PythonProficiency in working with Linux/UNIX operating systemsPreferred/Desired Qualifications:
