Job Description:
Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX) is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist based from our San Juan Capistrano, CA or our Marlborough, MA location.

The Bioinformatics Scientist plans, prepares, conducts experimentation, prepares reports and analyses results as related to product and process development improvement.

Working with a team, this professional evaluates, develops, validates and implements new next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis technology and technology enhancements, including bioinformatics analysis pipelines, testing/validation scripts, and other tools related to genetic diagnostics. He/she will consult on process and technology improvements within R&D, Operations, and IT departments. In addition, the Staff Scientist participates in the resolution of support requests where computational biology tools are used while regularly preparing data analyses for internal review.

To qualify, the ideal candidate will have:

  • 2+ years of related and relevant experience in computational biology/bioinformatics IT, life sciences, engineering, or computer science
  • Bachelor’s degree required, MS or PhD preferred
  • Hands-on experience analyzing NGS data
  • Project management and support experience
  • Demonstrable proficiency with Perl, Python and/or shell scripting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to problem-solving situations
In addition:

2+ years of software development and/or database development experience in a SQL, Linux, and/or HPC environment strongly preferred
