Job Description:
Ag Productivity Innovations at Monsanto is seeking a Data Science and Statistics Platform Lead to build a digital research ecosystem and intelligently connect Monsanto and our Ag Productivity Innovations business partners within an emerging digital agriculture landscape. This team is a functional center of excellence for the development and application of computational methods and statistical design that enables success across the Ag Productivity Innovation function. To be successful, you will develop relationships with a wide range of research scientists, statisticians, and analytics teams across R&D.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Be a leader and a subject matter expert within and outside of Monsanto in data science and statistics
  • Provide computational and bioinformatic expertise, leadership, and resources across Chemistry programs and projects.
  • Through leadership and expertise, foster and drive a strong statistics and analytics-driven culture, including appropriate application of Design of Experiments, sampling, mixed model analysis, and Hypothesis testing
  • Lead a team to develop bioinformatic software, algorithms, and interfaces to optimize workflows and processes, enabling use by non-domain experts Coordinate efforts between Chemistry and related groups and resources in e.g. Biotech, TPS, Breeding, and IT
  • Develop data repositories and interfaces to enable effective tracking, mining, and analysis of data across experiments and teams
  • Attract, retain and develop talented data and statistics scientists able to collaborate and solve increasingly challenging problem sets within Monsanto and Agriculture.
  • Work to ensure maximum value from data capture, statistics and analytics initiatives by managing an analytics portfolio life cycle.
  • Manage the efficient development, deployment, maintenance and connection of analytics models.
  • Seek synergy from analytics models through model connectivity.
  • Manage the development and life-cycle of data acquisition tools in R-Shiny or other 3GA compliant platforms.
  • Seek out, develop and foster partnerships with external parties that could support Monsanto’s current and future analytics strategy (e.g. joint ventures, strategic partnerships, acquisition opportunities).
  • Collaborate with R&D IT Strategy to develop joint digital strategy including data, services, applications, and analytics.
  • Identify high value decisions or workflows to optimize through analytics.

Required Skills:

  • MS and 5 years of experience OR Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience leading a team, including ability to utilize and coach other scientists.
  • 5+ years of experience in bioinformatics, genomics, and the application of computational methods to biological questions
  • Thorough understanding of statistical methods, and experience with a wide variety of bioinformatics software
  • A track record of visualization, integration, and communication of complex heterogeneous data using R, Python, or similar languages
  • Experience coordinating between biologists or chemists and informatics/software engineering teams in the development of bioinformatics tools, databases, and resources.
  • Rigorous analytical and statistical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
