Job Description:
Do you have expertise in Natural Language Processing ? Want to join an organisation that's blazing the trail in the storage of big scientific data ? GSK is creating a Digital, Data and Analytics group within R&D to unlock the potential of this vast pool of data - and we need your help to achieve this!

The Opportunity …

Biological and chemical data underpin everything we do and with advances in automation and instrumentation, the volume and complexity of these data have increased to unprecedented levels. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply cutting edge knowledge extraction, natural language processing and text mining to reduce the time it takes to get drugs to the clinic and ultimately to patients. The increasing volume of biomedical scientific literature makes it progressively more challenging to follow the breadth of new developments. They will be leveraging state-of-the-art NLP and text mining algorithms to aid in overcoming this challenge in multiple areas of the R&D enterprise, engaging with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities and challenges in this broad space, and then implementing and optimizing their solutions.

The successful candidate will remain at the cutting-edge of data science technologies, have the opportunity to attend/present at conferences and publish their research in peer reviewed journals. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a global team working in a critical growth area for GSK.

Key Responsibilities …

  • Develop information retrieval approaches suitable for diverse range of biomedical corpora, ranging from published literature to internal reports.
  • Implement relationship extraction approaches combined with named entity recognition to enable mapping of biological and chemical literature into a knowledge network.
  • Develop highly scalable models leveraging machine learning and statistical modelling to explore the resulting knowledge networks
  • Lead exciting research on the application of machine learning towards understanding disease and developing new drugs
  • Work collaboratively to architect and implement data-science solutions, mapping the data processing flow from raw data or data stores, to identifying optimal data analytics approaches, to data visualization and working with users to optimize the user experience
  • Developing proof-of-value prototypes for new NLP/ machine learning approaches
  • Consult on data analytics, machine learning, and NLP software best practices
  • Work collaboratively with other teams and scientific lines to identify and refine key NLP-related problems and challenges
  • Evaluate cutting edge NLP and text mining third-party software
  • Represent GSK at external conferences and partnerships (academic and industrial)
  • Contribute to the data culture at GSK through publication, collaborations, and code-sharing
  • Communicate progress and challenges to key stakeholders within the DDA group and with external partners
Our Commitment ….

At GSK we are all inspired by the difference we make and challenge ourselves every day to improve the lives of patients and consumers. That’s why we have created an environment where everyone feels valued, able to develop, contribute to our mission and be proud of what we achieve.

To support you in achieving your role and career ambitions you’ll be given the opportunity to:

  • Play an important role in delivering our mission
  • Be an essential part of diverse, global team
  • Develop others as part of your own professional growth
We look forward to receiving your application !
