Position purpose:
Contributes to cell culture process development projects by applying advanced tools and methods of genomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics, aimed at deeper understanding of mammalian cell-based cell culture processes for biopharmaceuticals.

Major tasks and responsibilities of position:
Demonstrates excellent learning ability and in-depth scientific knowledge of cell line development and cell culture process development for biopharmaceuticals. Independently designs and conducts process development experiments of considerable complexity, aiming to collect, analyze, and understand large sets biological data as they pertain to issues in cell culture processes. Champions the application of bioinformatics during cell line creation and cell culture process development, recommending new methods with which to analyze cell culture systems. Analyzes and interprets results, systems or procedures; troubleshoots failed experiments, assays or procedures; and makes changes as appropriate. Exercises sound technical judgment to solve a wide range of scientific problems and overcomes obstacles and develops experimental approaches. Assists, counsels, and coordinates project or departmental activities and ensures the flow of communications and/or interim supervisory functions. Interprets and effectively communicates complex scientific findings in one-on-one, department, and functional meetings. Fosters a team based approach to research. Keeps up to date on new scientific and technological developments with regard to literature/publication within field of cell culture and applied bioinformatics. Provides first-authored, complete, and quality internal and external reports on technical achievements. Contributes to scientific literature and conferences. Participates in the development of patent applications. Ensures that laboratory notebooks are consistently updated, audited and well-maintained. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Qualifications:
Minimum Education • PhD with minimum of 0 years industrial experience, with rigorous scientific and engineering research training, in chemical/biochemical engineering, culture physiology, and bioinformatics.
B.S. degree in chemical/biochemical engineering, bioengineering, or bioinformatics, with a minimum of 8 years of rigorous scientific and engineering research/industry experience, in chemical/biochemical
engineering, culture physiology, and bioinformatics.
M.S. degree in chemical/biochemical engineering, bioengineering, or bioinformatics, with minimum of 6 years of rigorous scientific and engineering research/industry experience, in chemical/biochemical engineering, culture physiology, and bioinformatics.

Special Skill/Knowledge
Extensive knowledge of advanced tools and methods of genomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics. Familiarity with mammalian cell culture process development in biopharmaceutical industry. Demonstrated ability to perform independent, world-class research and development studies, in the field of biochemical engineering and cell biology. Good working knowledge of bioinformatics related software and Microsoft suite of Software (Word, Excel). Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and interpret experiments. Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot problems requiring original thought. Demonstrated knowledge in field of expertise (i.e. † of literature, new developments, technologies and regulations).
Ability to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. Ability to identify gaps in technology and operational systems and solve complex and diverse operational and scientific problems requiring original thinking and deductive reasoning. Ability to apply scientific principles to the interpretation of scientific experiments. Demonstrated success for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought. Demonstrated ability to present ongoing work at internal/departmental meetings. Has contributed to concept project proposals or technologies.
