CCS-3/Information Sciences

What You Will Do The Computer, Computational, and Statistical Sciences (CCS) Division is a vibrant scientific research and development organization working in multiple mission areas of Los Alamos National Laboratory, including information science and technology, basic science and technology research programs, computing programs, energy and climate programs, and the nuclear weapons program. The division is comprised of scientists (85% PhD) focused on impactful research and development in fundamental computer science, computational physics, algorithms, high-performance computing, statistics, and applied mathematics. CCS Division bridges the computational sciences that are central to scientific discovery and innovation with external partners and laboratory programs to solve complex and fundamental problems ranging from metagenomics to nuclear energy.

The Information Sciences group (CCS-3) has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate in the area of modeling and optimization for novel hardware architectures. Selected candidates will participate in multi-year projects to develop a comprehensive performance-prediction and optimization capability for next-generation HPC platforms. For this interdisciplinary project, we are looking for candidates with a strong background in as many of the following areas as possible:

· Computer architectures with a focus on novel concepts used in high-performance platforms (codesign, GPUs, many-cores, etc.)

· Modeling performance such as execution time, energy consumption, cache misses

· Design of efficient parallel algorithms

· Discrete and global optimization

· Machine learning

· Advanced programming skills

· Discrete-Event Simulation

We offer the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
