If you're an intellectually curious and driven college student looking for a rewarding internship in the genomics space, we should talk. We're looking for interns to join both our software engineering and science teams. Over the course of the program, you will sit with the teams and work side by side with computational biologists, software engineers and the rest of the DNAnexus team. You will have the opportunity to be part of some pretty cool projects while learning how to use our platform and use the DNAnexus SDK. On a daily basis, you will be working hands-on with genomics sequence analysis, using popular tools such as NGS, BWA and GATK to translate data pipelines into the DNAnexus platform, use cloud resources to optimize and accelerate them, and confirm their scientific validity. Coding is a big part of the role so expect some of your time to be spent building core technologies for scaling up systems to thousands of servers for managing and analyzing petabytes of data. Qualified applicants will be currently enrolled college students moving into either junior or senior level class work in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or related discipline with a computational emphasis. During your studies you have acquired excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication, presentation skills and are fluent with at least one programming language such as C++, Java, Python, and/or JavaScript. - Fluency in at least one programming language, such as Python, BASH, C++, Java, etc.
- Familiarity with concepts of genomics and molecular biology
- Juniors (and PhD and Master’s) pursuing degree in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS and Azure is a plus
- Familiarity with general knowledge of NGS and its common applications is a plus
- Experience with version control (e.g. git, mercurial) is a plus
