Job Description:
The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Corrigan Minehan Heart Center and Cardiovascular Research Center is seeking a highly motivated individual for a postdoctoral research fellowship position to work on multiple clinical and translational research projects focused on cardiovascular disease. The new team member should have prior experience in management, manipulation, and analysis of high-dimensional ‘omics datasets derived from multiple types of experimental designs. Interest in or experience with applying statistical learning approaches and developing computational tools to analyzing data would also be very highly valued.

This postdoctoral position offers the opportunity to work directly with the Senior Investigator as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists. The candidate will have the opportunity to lead data analyses for projects related to heart disease, and to leverage conventional and advanced approaches to analyze large unique databases of human and experimental ‘omics data. The candidate will contribute to the preparation and presentation of research results and publications and will help coordinate collaborative research activities with investigators within other Harvard departments and at other institutions across the U.S. and other countries around the world. The successful candidate is highly motivated, scientifically inquisitive, and thrives in an academic/professional atmosphere, where interdisciplinary teams are central to project success.

The Postdoctoral Fellow has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Actively lead the data analysis for a set of projects related to heart disease
  • Design and implement novel computational and statistical approaches to analyze high-dimensional complex datasets
  • Work closely with investigators to ensure analytical activities are within scope, timeline, and reach the overall aims of the collaboration
  • Contribute to study design as well as creation and implementation of analytical plans for specific research projects or a set of research projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation and presentation of research results in the form of oral presentations at meetings and conferences as well as in the form of original research publications.
  • Coordinate collaborative data analysis related activities with investigators within other Harvard departments and at other institutions across the U.S., and Europe.
  • Regularly and proactively communicate accomplishments and progress at project team meetings
  • Participate actively in mentorship of research team members and trainees to foster a culture of scientific excellence
Qualifications:

The Postdoctoral Fellow should have the following qualifications:

  • PhD degree in an analytical and/or computational field, including epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, computer science, bioinformatics or other relevant scientific discipline.
  • Strong interest in clinical and/or translational research is required.
  • Thorough understanding of biostatistics preferred
  • Experience using R, STATA, and/or SAS to analyze large datasets required.
  • Experience with Python and working in Linux environments preferred.
  • Direct experience performing analyses of genetic and other omics data would be highly valued.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidate must be highly organized and have precise attention to detail.
  • Able to multitask and assign priorities in a busy, start-up like environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with a dynamic team.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects’ rights and individual needs.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Preferred 1 year of relevant work experience
