The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 9 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet. Division The Division of Clinical Immunology conducts research on several aspects of human immunology with a strong focus on developmental immunology, immunotherapy and pathologies associated with the immune system. Link to: Qiang Pan-Hammarström’s research group Duties The fellow will be engaged in the characterization of the genome and transcriptome of B cell lymphoid malignancies, with focus on studying the RNA editing process in diffuse large B cell lymphomas (DLBCL). Techniques applied include next generation sequencing platforms such as whole-exome, whole-genome sequencing, RNAseq and single cell sequencing. The fellow will be involved in the analysis of sequencing data, but also in downstream studies such as validation of genetic alterations by complementary techniques and functional testing. Finally, the fellow is expected to assume a major role in the writing of scientific publications and grant applications. Entry requirements Scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies may be awarded to individuals who come from other countries with the intention of remaining in Sweden only while obtaining all or part of their education. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher. Having received a salary or other remuneration from Karolinska Institutet during the past two years may be disqualifying. One requirement for receiving a scholarship for postdoctoral studies is central registration as a postdoc. The applicant is eligible to apply if he or she has obtained a PhD in the fields of Biology, Genetics, Oncology and Immunology, or related fields, no more than 5 years before the last date of employment as postdoc. Those who graduated earlier can be considered if special grounds apply. These include: leave due to sickness, military service, positions in trade unions and student organizations, parental leave or other similar circumstances. A total of two years can be deducted due to above circumstances. The applicant should be a talented and highly motivated researcher who is able to work within a team environment. The candidate is expected to possess a strong background in cancer genetics and master several molecular biology techniques. Good knowledge of bioinformatics tools, RNA editing or the CRISPR/Cas 9 technology is an advantage. Furthermore, the candidate should possess excellent communicating and writing skills in English.
