Job Description:

In this role, as a Predictive Analytics Data Scientist you will play a key role in delivering innovative scientific breakthroughs by develop methodologies of predictive modeling of genomic and production data to drive decisions that are critical to Monsanto products’ success. You will learn the decision-making process in Monsanto’s product pipeline, to gain experience of implementing predictive analytics model in the Ag industry.

As part of our diverse, highly dynamic group, you will be exposed to exciting research challenges and will have ample opportunity to work with interdisciplinary scientists to foster career growth and development while delivering innovative analytical solutions. Upon completion of the program, you’ll present your findings to an audience of peers and senior management. End of summer presentations are hosted at a designated Monsanto site, where students network with scientists and learn more about future career opportunities at Monsanto.

Dates for this summer internship are May 14 - August 3 of 2018.

Required:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a PhD degree program in Statistics, Operations Research, Computational Biology, Biostatics, Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics or a related field Thorough knowledge of machine learning and data mining
  • Demonstrated computational skills and experience with R, Python, MATLAB, Java or other programming packages
  • Creative, proactive, bold and out-of-box thinking
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong business aptitude, the ability to rapidly learn new problem domains, and become conversant in the domain with subject matter experts
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, precise and actionable manner
  • Detail and results-orientated with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to actively engage with internal partners & external collaborators to align strategies & success measures in analytics
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of genetics, breeding, agriculture and/or biotechnology
  • Experience with solving analytical problems involving big data sets using quantitative approaches
  • SQL scripting and coding, understanding of database systems and management of large data sets
