Job Description:
The Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah, seeks a Data Analyst to join its staff. This individual will assist researchers in the analysis and interpretation of data from multiple environments across the nation and evaluate or create new data analysis and data management tools. The individual will consult with study investigators and other clinicians in the Division of Epidemiology to determine analytic requirements.

Responsible for performing professional Programmer/Analyst assignments, including conducting analysis, maintenance, design conversion and implementation of computer based information systems to meet specified design requirements and specifications. Investigates standard system applications, prepares analysis of system specifications and program coding. Translates detailed design specifications into computer program instructions, debugs routine programs, conducts systems test data, prepares diagrams and over-all flow charts, and prepares statements of programs objectives and associated documentation. Conducts programming tasks including data manipulation, input and output routines reflecting a variety of equipment configurations. Coordinates the interfaces between major systems and programs. Responsible for Web design, maintenance and updates. Presents recommendations to management. Recommends system software modifications or changes to hardware configurations.

Responsibilities:

• Design distributed algorithms for efficient data retrieval and computation.

• Create, maintain, and document computer software for data analysis and management.

• Assist researchers with the design of research studies.

• Collaborates with study and analytics team to test hypothesis, answer key questions, summarize data, and create reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience. 5-8 years of experience.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences:

• Bachelors of Science degree with a focus on Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or Computer Science. Equivalent experience will be considered: four years of related work experience.

• Expert knowledge of SQL-related languages (SQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and Statistical Packages (SAS, Stata, R) with 5-7 years of experience.

• Master of Science degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science and/or Life Sciences preferred.

• Eligible for Department of Veterans Affairs WOC status.
