Job Description:
This position resides in the research group of Olli Kallioniemi, Director of Science for Life Laboratory, Professor of Molecular Precision Medicine, affiliated with both the Dept. Oncology and Pathology, Karolinska Institutet and the Science for Life Laboratory. Our group carries out systems medicine research, aiming to understand the etiology, molecular mechanisms, biomarkers and therapeutics of disease in an individualized manner. The research group works in close collaboration with clinicians and bioinformatics experts as well as with the high-throughput and -omics platforms at SciLifeLab. Qualifications :

The successful applicant is expected to have a master’s degree or relevant experience in academia or industry in a suitable field (bioinformatics, computer science, mathematical modelling, statistics, or another relevant field). Prior experience in analyzing -omics or life science data is beneficial. Knowledge on relevant bioinformatics data analysis pipelines such as R, Bioconductor and/or Python and other relevant programming languages. Motivation to develop web-based interactive data visualizations and analysis tools using for example Shiny is valued. In our dynamic, multidisciplinary and collaborative team, the applicant should be self-driven but possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in spoken and written English.

Task Description:

This position provides an exciting opportunity to work in a leading research environment for high-throughput, systems medicine research, in close collaboration with bioinformatic experts and data scientists from all the SciLifeLab host universities. The tasks for this position involve: 1) development and analysis of -omics data pipelines, and 2) creating knowledge from multi-omics and systems medicine data by integrating and making use of existing data from our group and from global databases. Central to the task is also to develop rapid turn-around pipelines for precision medicine data analysis accessible not only for informaticians but also biologists and clinicians.

At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer is carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working at the department. 37 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 120 PhD students. The Department of Oncology-Pathology is responsible for undergraduate courses in Pathology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine for medical students, as well as for Tumor biology courses for biomedicine students and Pathology courses for opticians.
