Job Description:
Amgen is seeking a talented and motivated computational biologist/chemist with expertise in proteomics and bioinformatics to join our research team.

The successful candidate will contribute to both discovery and targeted proteomic analysis in support of target validation, biomarker discovery, and mechanism-of-action studies. Demonstrated expertise in modern data analysis techniques applied to mass spectrometry-based proteomic technologies is a critical component of the successful applicant. Other aspects of the role include technology innovation, target discovery, and implementation of analytical methodologies for the characterization of Amgen’s early discovery-stage therapeutic candidates.

The successful candidate will join the Discovery Attribute Sciences group at our South San Francisco campus. This group is tasked with developing and implementing proteomic and protein characterization technologies in support of Amgen’s early discovery pipeline.

Responsibilities:

This role will enable Amgen’s preclinical pipeline through delivery of innovative technologies and technical expertise. Responsibilities will include data processing and analysis of complex mass spectrometry generated data sets, statistical optimization of experimental design, post-acquisition bioinformatics, and data management. The successful candidate will be expected to work across both genomic and proteomic platforms for data integration and mining.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR Master’s degree and 4 years Scientific experience

OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-doctoral or industry training in proteomics and bioinformatics or other relevant scientific field
  • Track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement.
  • A strong background in biology or chemistry, especially as it pertains to human disease in the fields of oncology, metabolic disease, neurological disease, and/or immunology.
  • Expertise with programming (e.g., Perl/Python, Java, SQL, R) and working in a Unix/Linux environment as applied to mass spectrometry-based proteomics data acquisition, data mining, and/or experimental design. Experience in relational databases and public genomic and proteomic databases, pathway analysis and ontology enrichment methods.
  • Strong verbal and written skills, and ability to work independently as well as in small teams.
