Job Description:
The Science and Technology Division (STD) of the Institute for Defense Analyses seeks a Computational Biologist for a Research Staff Member position. The candidate would join a diverse group of scientific researchers that perform rigorous technical analyses in support of IDA STD’s sponsors within the Department of Defense. Some of these sponsors include the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and entities within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Analyses would include program evaluation and original scientific research. The candidate would add their Computational Biology skills to a growing group of biologists within STD to address synthetic, genomic, and molecular biology questions posed by the DOD and other National Security Agencies.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D in Systems, Synthetic, Molecular or Computational Biology is required.
  • A strong understanding of genomics, genetics, gene expression analysis, and molecular biology assay techniques. An understanding of high-throughput DNA sequencing, array-based gene expression analysis, and genome engineering techniques is desirable.
  • Strong programming skills for the analysis of genomic and gene expression data. A proven track record and significant bioinformatics experience analyzing large genomic and expression data sets highly desirable. Proficiency in relevant programming languages (Python, etc) as well as Matlab and state-of-the-art bioinformatics programs.
  • Candidates should have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and exhibit strong communications skills.
  • U.S. citizenship is required and applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
