Job Description:
Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the SRA-I provides technical and operational support for the design, implementation, and maintenance of existing and new pipelines for genetic data analysis. Job duties include: preprocessing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data (data conversion, sequence alignments, quality control); statistical analysis of NGS data using current analysis pipelines (variant calling, association analysis, enrichment analysis); improving current pipelines and developing new pipelines for NGS data with the latest statistical approaches; preparing analysis reports; maintaining NGS data and results for future projects; providing assistance to lab members for NGS data analysis.
  • Download, convert, maintain, and preprocess next-generation sequencing (NGS) data from different sequencing projects such that they are appropriate for initial analysis.
  • Perform sequence alignment and basic quality control using existing software packages on NGS data.
  • Maintain and improve current analysis pipelines for variant calling, quality control, association, enrichment, gene set analyses of NGS data in a large UCLA cluster environment.
  • Develop new pipelines for analyzing NGS data with the latest statistical approaches and integrate them with the current pipelines in a large UCLA cluster environment.
  • Perform statistical analysis on large-scale whole-genome sequencing data of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders by utilizing the existing and new analysis pipelines for NGS data.
  • Prepare materials (tables, figures, analytic summary, interpretations) for research reports, presentations and manuscripts
  • Assist lab members in analyzing NGS data for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • This is a limited position, may convert to career.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred: BS degree in Biostatistics/Bioinformatics/Biochemistry or related field.
  • Experience with programming or scripting languages (C/C++/Java/Python).
  • Experience with linux environment and Sun Grid Engine.
  • Experience with applying existing software packages to data.
  • General knowledge of basic statistics including linear/logistic regression, t-test, and PCA.
  • Knowledge of computational/statistical genetics.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently and to take directions.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to read and understand research papers on neurobehavioral issues and statistical methodology.
  • General knowledge of University procedures.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime in order to meet deadlines related to grant applications and publications.
