Job Description:
A position for a Post-doctoral Bioinformatics Research Associate is available to work at the Bill Lyons Informatics Centre (BLIC) in the UCL Cancer Institute (Paul O’Gorman Building). In addition to providing bioinformatics and statistics support to the institute, our group works on integration of genomics data, the study of cancer heterogeneity and cancer evolution. The BLIC currently hosts the principal investigator, six postdoctoral research associates, two PhD students and two MSc students. The position is available within the bioinformatics team, where you will be collaborating with other research groups of the CITA Network. The successful candidate will lead the analysis and integration of data produced from the IMDC, with a focus on Lung cancer, Renal cancer and Melanoma involving mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, CyTOF, genomics and transcriptomics data. Such data will arise from several cancer immunology projects, including the TRACERx programme lead by Prof. Charles Swanton and Dr. Sergio Quezada at the UCL Cancer Institute and James Larkin and Samra Turajlic at the Francis Crick Institute and the Royal Marsden Hospital. Duties and responsibilities of the post holder include but are not limited to: to work as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists, developing good working relationships within the team, and to establish and maintain excellent communication link; liaise with other members of the research teams and other CITA Network investigators and work with other bioinformatics researchers and computer scientists to achieve the post objectives; conduct NGS-based analyses using RNA-seq and DNA-seq data in collaboration with other research groups in the Cancer Institute and across the CITA Network, develop, use or improve algorithms, tools and/or analysis pipelines. In particular, to establish new pipelines to process the data coming from the CITA network. The post is funded until 31st August 2020 in the first instance. Key Requirements: Successful applicant, must have a first degree in a biological sciences related subject and a PhD in bioinformatics or a PhD in molecular biology or related subject and postdoctoral bioinformatics experience. Broad understanding of cancer genomics and immunology, extensive knowledge of scripting language (eg. Perl or Python), R and Unix, previous experience of working with next generation DNA or RNA sequence data are also essential requirements.
