Job Description:
The Research Scientist II will work with the Arivale Research Team to computationally identify and validate complex biological associations with diseases, wellness, and behavioral phenotypes using diverse molecular data. This position will involve working primarily with gut microbiome data along with a broad range of phenotype observations including clinical labs, quantified-self data, genomic variants, protein data, metabolite data, and other omics data.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Apply bioinformatics techniques to process and analyze data derived from the gut microbiome.
  • Use statistical analysis and machine learning techniques to identify novel and complex biological associations between the composition of the gut microbiome and genetic traits, metabolites, proteins, diseases, wellness, and behavioral phenotypes.
  • Design and apply novel computational approaches, algorithms, and analytical tools.
  • Consult with other computational scientists, geneticists, and developers to analyze problems and recommend analytical strategies.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and registered dieticians to create content for customer facing data insights, including graphical representations and explanatory training materials.
  • Assist in the development of quality assurance and quality control procedures for on- going data collection and analysis.
  • Participate in weekly research meetings and assist with the preparation of research plans and analysis strategies.
  • Conduct literature searches and actively participate in manuscript preparation and/or conference presentation.
Education:

PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, computer science, or related field. M.S. considered with relevant experience.

Experience:

3 years in analyzing metagenomic data (16S and shotgun) or directly related experience. Experience in Python or R is required. Experience in statistics and machine learning is desirable.
