Your tasks and responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Group Leader Computational Life Sciences, are to:
- Lead and develop Bioinformatics, Biostatistics and Informatics Scientists as part of the Trait Research (TR) and Bayer’s people strategy;
- Develop a deep understanding of the business objectives and research programs in TR and apply Computational Life Sciences (CLS) solutions to meet TR needs;
- Extend existing CLS capabilities by developing, seeking and acquiring cutting edge technologies to improve and transform our trait discovery and validation process;
- Strategize and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists to offer data-driven solutions for controlling pests, weeds, and diseases in row crops;
- Plan and manage budget, internal CLS resources and third party collaborations;
- Collaborate with internal and external informatics professionals to provide continuous, optimal operation of CLS infrastructure and to best leverage their expertise;
- Comply with Bayer regulations and safety practices and promote such behavior as well as promote a constructive feedback culture.

More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications:- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biology or related field and 8+ years of post-Ph.D. industry/academic experience;
- M.S. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biology or related field with minimum of 12 years relevant experience;
- B.S. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biology or related field with minimum of 14 years relevant experience;
- Ability to cultivate innovation through direct reports and ability to think beyond in silico based solutions;
- Innate desire to collaborate and be open and accepting to different perspectives and cultural views;
- Strong communication skills to translate technical and scientific information to various levels of scientists and non-scientists;
- In depth familiarity with various public -omics databases, statistical software tools and packages such as R and bioinformatics algorithms, particularly in the analysis of NGS data;
- Experience in programming/scripting languages (e.g. C, Python), databases (e.g. relational, noSQL) and IT infrastructure (e.g. GPFS, high performance computing cluster).
