A two year postdoctoral position is available in the Van de Peer lab in the Department of Plant Systems Biology (VIB), Bioinformatics Institute Ghent N2N (BIG N2N), Ghent University, starting August 1st 2016. Our research group is considered a center of excellence in gene prediction and genome annotation, and comparative and evolutionary genomics. We are currently looking for someone to strengthen our genome annotation and genome analysis team, in particular someone to work on the comparative analysis of mites, of which many are important pests for plants. Amongst other things, we want to unravel the genetic/genomic cause for specific adaptations linked to lifestyle and herbivory. You will also be involved in the study of gene and genome duplications, another major interest of the research group. Working environment The successful candidate will work in the Department of Plant Systems Biology (VIB) at Ghent University. VIB and BIG N2N offer a supportive and stimulating environment, with access to excellent computer and academic facilities. The Van de Peer lab is a computational group and consists of a mix of molecular and evolutionary biologists and computer scientists. More information on our research and research topics can be found at http://bioinformatics.psb.ugent.be/. [More]
The Wilkinson laboratory is seeking outstanding candidates to fill 2 recently funded positions on the topic of epigenetics. The projects revolve around the topic of trans-generational inheritance of DNA methylation marks induced by environmental stress. Expertise in either epigenetics or bioinformatics (not necessarily both) is required. Other recently funded positions are also available on the topics of stem cells and RNA biology (the NMD pathway). All projects build on the long-track record of the Wilkinson laboratory (recent papers include: Shum et al. Cell [2016]; Cook-Andersen & Wilkinson Nature [2015]; Karam et al. EMBO Rep [2015]; Lou et al. Cell Reports [2014]; Liu et al. Nature Medicine [2014]; Maeder et al. Nature Biotech [2013]; Ramaiah et al. Molecular Cell [2012]; Bruno et al. The Rhen Lab in the University of North Dakota Biology Department seeks two highly motivated postdocs. Our overarching goal is to understand mechanisms underlying organism-environment interactions and genotype-environment interactions, which are ubiquitous in nature. Such interactions have implications for problems as diverse as predicting the impact of climate change on individual species and understanding individual differences in susceptibility to environmental causes of disease. Postdoctoral Fellow in Epigenomics – This position focuses on epigenetic regulation of genes required for testis and ovary development in a species with temperature-dependent sex determination. The successful candidate will conduct and analyze ChIP-qPCR and ChIP-Seq studies. Proficiency with standard bioinformatics methods is required. Prior experience with genome assembly, annotation, or genome-wide ChIP analysis is preferred. Excellent opportunity for individuals with bioinformatics training to expand their understanding of biology and develop practical expertise with wet lab techniques. Postdoctoral Fellow in Multi-scale Modeling – This position focuses on development of multi-scale models to link [More]
