NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are available in the Frolov laboratory at Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at University of Illinois at Chicago. Our laboratory investigates the function of Retinoblastoma (RB) tumor suppressor pathway using a Drosophila model system to guide the follow up studies in mammalian cells. The goal of our research is to understand the molecular and cellular functions of RB pathway, its interaction with other tumor suppressor pathways such as Hippo pathway and how these normal activities are perturbed in cancer. We are using diverse genetic, biochemical, single cell and genome-wide approaches to address these questions. These efforts are complemented by functional analysis of mutational landscape in human cancers where we work in close collaboration with a bioinformatics group at IRB Barcelona. For more information about our research please refer to our recent publications: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=((Frolov+MV[Author])+AND+chicago[Affiliation]). [More]
Location: Monterotondo (near Rome), Italy Staff Category: Staff Member Contract Duration: 5 years Grading: 9 Closing Date: 30 October 2016 Reference Number: MR_00049 Job Description The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy). EMBL is searching for a Group Leader to head up an independent research group in the EMBL-Monterotondo Unit in Rome. We seek dynamic and interactive individuals having recently completed their post-doctoral training with an excellent scientific track record and demonstrated experience or interest in the general area of epigenetics and developmental biology. We encourage applications from scientists working on diverse questions relating to mammalian organismal biology that would benefit from the mouse as an experimental system and the use of modern genetic and genomic approaches. The Scientific Programme of EMBL emphasizes experimental analysis at multiple levels of biological organisation, from the molecule to the organism, as well as Computational Biology, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. Within this overall structure, the EMBL-Monterotondo Unit applies a wide range of modern technologies to diverse problems of whole organism biology. Currently its research groups address areas of neurobiology, epigenetics, developmental biology and developmental genetics and are supported by state-of-the-art core facilities in histology, recombineering/gene editing, flow cytometry, microscopy, and mouse transgenesis. EMBL-Monterotondo benefits from close interactions with groups at EMBL-Heidelberg in the Developmental Biology Unit, Genome Biology, Cell Biology & Biophysics, and Structural and Computational Biology Units with whom it shares core facilities in high-throughput sequencing, advanced light and electron microscopy, small molecule screening, protein production, and mass spectroscopy. EMBL-Monterotondo groups also have access to research activities at the EMBL-EBI (European Bioinformatics Institute) in Hinxton, UK, and structural biology expertise at EMBL-Hamburg and Grenoble. EMBL offers a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, and uniquely international culture. It fosters top quality, interdisciplinary research by promoting a vibrant environment consisting of young independent research groups with access to outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Significant core funding and limited teaching responsibilities allow EMBL group leaders to undertake ambitious, farsighted research programs and provides a scientific environment that is particularly attractive for researchers with families. Further information about research in the Monterotondo Unit and EMBL can be found at the EMBL web page Benefits EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering attractive conditions and benefits appropriate to an international research organisation. The remuneration package comprises a competitive salary, a comprehensive pension scheme and health insurance, education and other family related benefits, as well as financial support for relocation and installation. We have an informal culture, international working environment and excellent professional development opportunities, including leadership and mentorship programs for young group leaders. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. [More]
