Job Description:
The Data Scientist will be responsible for supporting novel biomarker and companion diagnostics development by mining and analyzing various types of data generated along product development and validation process. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, solid programming experience, a high level of professional maturity, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Design, execute and present data query results of on large genomics, clinical and process datasets to inform biomarker development and assay validation.
  • Design and develop standardized data templates for reporting and visualization of validation study results.
  • Provide insights and collaborate with other functions in building a centralized validation database to store and trace all analytical and clinical validation data.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge of and access to available and meaningful data sources within and ex FMI, and their application to product development needs.
Required Education and Experience:
  • M.S. or B.S. (with more extensive work experience) in Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related field with a significant quantitative base.
  • For B.S., requires 3+ years’ experience in the biopharmaceutical/diagnostics industry.
  • Strong programming and computing skills; Fluency in one or several scripting languages (Python, Perl) and/or statistical software package (R, SAS) is required.
  • Prior experience in working with databases, including proficiency in SQL and/or SPRQL.
  • Exquisite attention to detail and an obsession with quality.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (NCBI, UCSC Genome Browser, IGV).
  • Knowledge and experience with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) is preferred.
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirement (e.g. GCP, ICH).
  • Experience with cluster parallel computing is preferred.
  • A high level of professional maturity, including an ability to consistently meet tight deadlines under pressure and command attention and respect in a client-facing setting.
  • Capability of highly-independent work as well as being a team player and role model.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude and skills including a willingness to take risks.
  • High energy level, a driving sense of urgency and a seasoned “make it happen/can do” orientation.
